The Department of Sports and Recreation is committed to mitigating the risk to COVID-19 exposure for our students, patrons, and staff. We are implementing safety guidelines for facilities, programs, and services to include increased cleaning protocols, social distancing, modified occupancy and updated code of conduct for use of all recreation facilities.
Facility protocols and hours are subject to change as information from the CDC, the
Georgia Department of Public Health, University System of Georgia, and Kennesaw State
University is received.

Reservations are required to enter the recreation facilities. All reservations will take place online.

Facility Guidelines
- We will follow current CDC guidelines and Georgia Department of Public Health safe practices for COVID-19
- Per USG guidelines, all staff and patrons will be required to wear face coverings inside the recreation facilities
- No temperature checks will take place; however, all patrons are responsible for self-monitoring according to CDC Guidelines before entering the facility.
- Reservations will be required to enter the facility and can be made at mysportsrec.kennesaw.edu
- Reservations will be for a 90 minute time slot
- Workout Reservations will begin 48 hours prior to the time slot
- Please wait to enter the building until your time slot begins
- All patrons are encouraged to:
- Self-monitor - if you are not feeling well or experiencing any of the symptoms related to COVID-19, please stay home.
- Practice social distancing – maintain a distance of 6 feet from others
- Wash your hands regularly
- Cough or sneeze into your elbow or tissue to cover your sneeze

- How to sign the facility waiver:
- Limit usage of the elevator (inside Student Recreation and Activities Center) to 3 people.
- Building Services and Sports and Recreation Staff will increase the frequency of cleaning
throughout operating hours.
- Additional cleaning protocols will be in place for Equipment Issue
- After each 90 minute reservation block, the facility will be cleared and high contact areas will be cleaned before the next session begins
- Patrons are not allowed to bring in personal equipment (ex. Basketballs) for team play
- Restrooms and Locker Rooms will be available for use
- Please maintain social distancing
- Daily Guest Passes will not be available. Only students and patrons that purchase a membership will be able to use the facilities
- Patrons are encouraged to bring their own water bottle. Water bottle filling stations at the water fountains will be available

Do I need to wear a face covering?
Face coverings are required in Sports and Recreation facilities. Effective July 15, University System of Georgia institutions will require all students, faculty, staff and visitors to wear an appropriate face covering inside campus facilities/buildings where social distancing of 6 feet may not always be possible. Face covering use will be in addition to and is not a substitute for social distancing.

What happens if someone is not wearing a face covering?Anyone not using a face covering when required will be asked to wear one or leave the area. Repeated refusal to comply with the requirement may result in discipline through the applicable code of conduct for faculty, staff or students.

Are there parts of the facilities that are not available for use?
Yes, specific areas may remain temporarily closed and repurposed if possible.
- Fitness equipment has been relocated to the basketball courts at SRAC and RWC

What facilities will be available?
Currently, the Betty L. Seigel Student Recreation and Activities Center on the Kennesaw Campus, the Recreation and Wellness Center on the Marietta Campus, and the Owls Nest are now open.
The Perch will not be available for open play during fall semester.

Will the facility entry and exit be the same as before?
At the Recreation and Wellness Center on the Marietta Campus, the facility entry and exit has been relocated to the northside of the facility. Now, you will enter and exit the facility through the doors located on the northside of the Basketball courts. Please look for signage directing you to the new entrance.

Are there occupancy limits in the facilities?
Yes, occupancy limits have been determined based on social distancing.

What are your social distancing guidelines?

Yes, you can ask for assistance with spotting. It is expected that while spotting all parties wear face coverings.

Will Group Fitness be offered?
Yes, group fitness will be offered in-person and virtually. Reservations for the class and the facility will be required for in-person classes. Sign up for classes to retrieve class links through the Sports and Recreation App or mysportsrec.kennesaw.edu.

How do I stay active at home?
OwlFit is offering a variety of programs including Group Fitness, Personal Training, Small Group Coaching, and Workouts To-Go. Visit our website for more info on each program!
Aquatics

Will we be limiting the number of patrons in the pool?
Yes, the entire building will be under set occupancy loads. We discourage patrons from sharing lanes and recommend only one patron per lane.

How will we social distance in the pool?
For patrons, we will limit drop-in recreation to one person per lane starting on opposite ends of the pool. There will be a chair at the end of each lane to mark your entry area. Please store your face covering, towel, and/or swim equipment on the chairs. Classes and clubs are responsible for enforcing social distancing and practice procedures. Patrons are encouraged to wipe down the chair before and after each use.

Do I have to wear a face covering at the pool?
All patrons will be required to wear a face covering into the aquatics area. Face coverings may be removed immediately before entering the water and must be put back on upon exit. Face coverings should be stored on the chair located at the end of each lane along with your towel and any swim equipment.

Will swim equipment be available?
Swim equipment will be available for use. Equipment will be disinfected after each use. Please see Aquatics staff for additional information.
Outdoor Adventures
Outdoor Adventures Cleaning Protocols

How will Outdoor Adventures ensure staff are following COVID Cleaning Protocols?
All Outdoor Adventures staff will attend trainings to ensure they adhere to all COVID cleaning protocols. Staff will wear face coverings when assisting patrons, and gloves when cleaning high contact areas. Floor decals are in place to assist patrons in keeping the minimum 6-foot social distance. Staff will also be trained on post usage equipment care.
Outdoor Gear Rental

Will Outdoor Adventures be renting camping equipment?
Yes, to request an equipment reservation, members must complete the form on our website or you can call us to request a reservation at 470-578-2298. Within 24 hours of your request you should receive an email confirmation to the address provided in your request form to confirm your reservation. Please note that Outdoor Adventures is closed on weekends. Any requests submitted over the weekend will be reviewed and processed the following Monday unless it is an observed university holiday.
When you arrive to pick up your equipment, you will need to pay your rental fee using cash or check. We currently cannot accept credit card transactions for equipment rental. -
What will be the hours for the Outdoor Adventures Suite?
Outdoor Adventures will be open Monday - Friday from 12pm-6pm

What equipment will be available for rent?
Outdoor Adventures will rent basic camping equipment such as sleeping bags, backpacks, tents, ground pads, camp chairs, stoves and fuel. Water filters will not be available. We will also have stand up paddleboards and sit on top kayaks available.

How long can I rent equipment and where can I find prices?All equipment can be rented daily with a daily rental rate. Rental prices are published on our equipment rental webpage.

How does Outdoor Adventures sanitize equipment after each rental/use?Soft goods like sleeping bags, stuff sacks, and liners will be cycled through a washer and dryer between each use. Tents, backpacks, and sleeping pads will be washed and rinsed with soapy water, sprayed with an approved disinfectant, and hung to dry. Tent poles and hiking poles will be washed in soap and water and air-dried. Other equipment will be wiped off, sprayed with disinfectant, and re-issued after a 72-hour “rest period”.

How do I pick up my rental gear?Visit Outdoor Adventures during our open hours on the first day of your equipment reservation. Your equipment will be prepared and ready for you to pick up. You will be expected to pay using cash or check. Members are responsible for loading their equipment into their cars on their own.

Climbing Gym

Is the Climbing Gym open?
It will open on August 24, 2020 by reservation only. Reservation time slots will be 50 minutes and will allow staff 10 minutes between time slots to clean. To make a reservation or view available time slots, visit our member portal. Then select Outdoor Adventures and Climbing Gym. Time slot reservations will begin 48 hours prior to the time slot. Climbing Gym will receive specialized cleaning by staff every morning prior to opening.

When it opens, what will the Climbing Gym hours be?
Monday-Friday 12pm-6pm

Can I bring a guest?
No. The Climbing Gym and recreation centers are not selling guest passes at this time.

Will there be a limit to the amount of people allowed in the Climbing Gym?
Yes, each reservation time slot will allow for 12 members to register. Our max occupancy in the Climbing Gym will be 14 to allow for appropriate staff. This allows 6 on the boulder wall, 3 pairs/6 climbers on the tower.

Will masks be required in the Climbing Gym?
Yes, per USG guidelines, all staff and patrons will be required to wear face coverings inside the recreation facilities. Bandanas, buffs, or other face coverings that attach around the neck are prohibited in the Climbing Gym.

How will the Climbing Gym be cleaned?
Between workout time slots, staff will have 10 minutes to wipe down all climbing hardware that was used during the session, counter tops, benches, storage cubbies, and door handles.

Will equipment be provided for climbing?
Ropes and harnesses can be checked out to a pair of climbers. Ropes will be set up for the specific climb and removed after climbing. The climbers may use the rope as many times as they wish within their session. After a rope and harness is used, it will remain quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours before being issued to new climbers. We are also increasing the frequency of route setting to allow for cleaning of holds more often. The Climbing Gym will no longer rent chalk, but climbing shoes will be available for rental on a first come first serve basis. Climbing shoes will be sprayed with a disinfectant as well as quarantined for 72 hours.

Do I have to use hand sanitizer or wash my hands before climbing?
Yes, it is recommended that you wash your hands before entering the Climbing Gym. You must use hand sanitizer prior to each climb. Stations are set up around the Climbing Gym for your use. We also have gym wipes available in the Climbing Gym so you can wipe down benches, door handles, etc. as needed.

Will you still host Try Climb?
Try Climb will follow the same capacity guidelines and will be “Clip N Climb” only. Rather than staff tying patrons into the climbing rope, the rope will have a set of 2 pre-tied carabiners that the patron can clip into themselves. This allows for social distancing in the set up and safety check before a climb.

Will you still host clinics?
Clinics will be postponed to a later date.
Bike Shop

Is the Bike Shop open?
The Bike Shop is open 12-6pm Monday-Friday by appointment only. You can schedule a time to drop off your bicycle for service by visiting mysportsrec.kennesaw.edu. Reservations are available every 30 minutes from 12pm-5:30 pm Monday through Friday.

Can I rent a long-term rental bike or check out a bike?
Yes. To request a reservation, please complete the form on our website. How Does the Bike Shop receive and clean cycling equipment?Bikes are placed in designated quarantined space for 72-hours or until staff can perform check-in tune-up. Tune-up includes complete wipe down with appropriate cleaner. Other equipment is cleaned using appropriate solution and or placed in 72-hour quarantine.
Nature Bound Trips

Is Nature Bound hosting trips this semester?
Nature Bound is excited to provide Meet-Up style adventures for Spring 2021. Meet-Up adventures will allow for social distancing during activities. All participants will provide their own transportation to a nearby location. Trip Leaders will meet you there in a KSU vehicle and will provide necessary equipment such as paddle boards or bikes. To participate in a Meet-Up, you must register in advance at mysportsrec.kennesaw.edu.

Intramural Sports

Do I have to wear a face covering during my Intramural Sports participation?
Depending on the intramural sport activity and/or host location, you may be required to wear a face covering.
In accordance with current USG guidelines, face coverings must be worn indoors, including fitness and athletic facilities. If an activity is hosted in an indoor space, you are required to wear a face covering during participation.
Current guidelines do not require a face covering for outdoor activities; however we encourage all intramural sport participants to take precautionary measures to help mitigate the spread of illness. -
Can I use the Owls Nest and Perch?
The Owls Nest fields will be open for drop-in play during non-organized activity hours; all users must adhere to the facility use guidelines.
The Perch will not be open for drop-in play for Fall 2020. -
Will spectators be permitted at my Intramural Sports contest/event?In an effort to mitigate risks and the spread of illness, spectators and individuals identified as “coach” will not be permitted to attend Intramural Sports contests/events. Only those individuals present on a team’s IMLeagues rosters will be permitted to attend Intramural Sports contests/events.

Can we host team meetings at the Nest?In an effort to mitigate risks and the spread of illness, we are encouraging all clubs to host team meetings virtually.

What do I do if I think I have COVID or think I may have been exposed to COVID?
All Intramural Sport participants are expected to self-monitor for symptoms and illness. If you are showing signs of COVID or illness, as listed in the CDC’s list of symptoms, stay home and follow the local health guidelines for notifying your health care provider and KSU Student Health Services, and get tested.
If you are not showing symptoms but suspect you may have been exposed to COVID, we request you not participate in Intramural Sport activities for at least two weeks (14 days) to protect the health and safety of other Intramural Sport participants. You must contact KSU Student Health Services at the time you suspect you have been exposed to COVID. -
Are these restrictions only for the Fall semester?
Currently these restrictions are for the Fall 2020 semester. As new guidance is received from the USG, KSU, and local health authorities, this guidance may be updated or extended.
Club Sports

Can we play in local rec league?
Due to the university travel restrictions, teams cannot compete in local rec leagues under the KSU name at this time.

Can we play ‘unaffiliated’ from KSU?
If your sport allows competition in an Open or Community division where you can register under your personal name without the endorsement or verification of a KSU official, you may compete.
You cannot register under the KSU name, logo or likeness; you cannot wear your KSU attire or uniform; you cannot use KSU branded or purchased equipment for these competitions. -
Can we host competitions on campus?
In an effort to reduce visitors to campus, and help mitigate the potential spread of illness, competitions, including but not limited to friendlies, tournaments, and round robins, are not permitted at this time.

Can we host competitions off campus?
Due to current travel and competition restrictions, teams are not authorized to host competitions off campus at this time.

Can we drive ourselves to ‘local’ club competitions- ie: downtown campuses such as Emory, GT, GSU
Due to the university travel restrictions, teams cannot compete under the KSU name at this time.

Can we do in-person fundraisers and recruitment?
In an effort to mitigate risks and the spread of illness, we are encouraging all clubs to host fundraisers and recruitments virtually. The Club Sports staff are available to discuss creative ideas for these initiatives; contact your Club mentor if you’d like to arrange a meeting.

Can we host team meetings at the Nest?In an effort to mitigate risks and the spread of illness, we are encouraging all clubs to host team meetings virtually. Only confirmed reservations and/or concussion testing will be approved uses of the meeting spaces. For outdoor practices, clubs are not approved to move practices inside to the Nest in the event of inclement weather.

Are there any travel exceptions for teams that have qualified for Regional and National level competitions from the spring 2020 semester?Due to current travel and competition restrictions and in an effort to mitigate the spread of illness, there are currently no exceptions for travel or competition.

Can my team hold practices?
Your team may hold practices in accordance with Club Sports protocols, social distancing guidelines, and provided all team members practice self-monitoring.

Practice schedules may be altered, reduced, or otherwise modified to accommodate mitigation efforts and allotted times for accommodating as many team practices as safely possible.
Teams found to be non-compliant with the practice arrangements, may receive sanctions, including, suspended practices. -
Do I have to wear a face covering during practice?
Depending on your team’s practice space, you may be required to wear a face covering.
In accordance with current USG guidelines, face coverings must be worn indoors, including fitness and athletic facilities. If your team practices in an indoor space, you are required to wear a face covering during practice.
Face coverings are required for club practices at outdoor campus facilities if social distancing cannot be met (within six feet or less of another person).

My team already paid our annual membership dues/registration; how do we get a refund?
If your team has already paid their NGB or a competition organizer for Fall 2020, the club will need to contact the league/competition organizer to make alternate arrangements (i.e. spring only season). If there is no option for alternate arrangements, the club will need to request a withdrawal/refund for participation in fall league competition.
If you experience difficulty with coordinating a withdrawal, refund, and/or alternate accommodation with a league administrator, please contact your Club mentor directly for assistance. -

Patrons will have contactless swipe-in at the check-in desk. Patrons will swipe their own KSU ID to gain entry and exit the facility.
